Association for the Study of Ginans (ASG) will hold a special tribute meeting for its past chairman and Advisor Emeritus Mr. Pyaralibhai Jiwa who passed away on 2nd February 2021. This meeting will celebrate Mr Jiwa's legacy and his dedication to preservation and study of Ginans.

This talk is based upon Dr. Akhtar’s book, The Khōjā of Tanzania: Discontinuities of a Postcolonial Religious Identity (Brill Academic Publishers, 2016), which reconstructs the development a religious identity among the Khōjā, an Indic Muslim merchant caste in East Africa, from their arrival on the Swahili coast in the late 18th century until the turn of the 21st century.

An iftar is the meal the breaks the traditional Muslim fast at sunset/nautical twilight during the Islamic month of Ramadan. This interfaith iftar, hosted with 10 Days of Connection, is intended to open this ritual meal to members of different faiths to learn about American Muslim culture and facilitate mutual understanding.
